Arrow Performance Tool
Kinetic Energy & Momentum
Compare finished arrow setups using actual chronograph speed when possible. Kinetic energy is useful, but momentum helps show how much shove the arrow carries downrange.
How This Tool Works
Energy and momentum come from weight and speed.
This calculator uses finished arrow weight in grains and arrow speed in feet per second. Kinetic energy is calculated as arrow weight times speed squared, divided by 450,240. Momentum is calculated by converting grains to pounds, then to slugs, and multiplying by speed.
The best speed input comes from a chronograph with the exact bow, draw length, arrow, string accessories, and broadhead or field point you plan to compare. If you enter estimated speed, the output is only as good as that estimate.
The setup labels are broad comparison bands. They help compare one build against another, but they do not prove penetration, broadhead flight, ethical range, or animal suitability by themselves.
